What is next
Our team will assist Dr. Zusko in creating a personalized treatment plan. We will discuss with you the onset, duration and intensity of pain, as well as stress and nutritional issues.
Dependent on your particular TMD issue, treatment may involve several phases:
- To offer proper diagnosis and determine a treatment plan to resolve head, neck and facial pain
- To help patients regain full function
- To stabilize the bite
The most common way to stabilize your bite is the use of a temporary easy-to-wear splint (orthotic) made to fit over the top or bottom teeth until the bite stabilizes and the muscles are relaxed and out of spasm.
Sometimes permanent correction may be required over and above wearing the customized splint, which may involve selective teeth reshaping, crowns, orthodontics or the placement of a permanent appliance. Though rare, surgery to correct a damaged join is only needed in about 10 per cent of all TMD cases.
Supplemental treatments may also be added as a part of your treatment plan, which could include a combination of:
- Physical Therapy
- Acupuncture/ Acupressure
- Relaxation Therapy
- Hot and Cold Therapy
- Nutritional Counselling
- Various Injections
- Spray and Stretch
It is Dr. Zusko’s priority to help you regain full function of your TMJ by eliminating any adverse maxillary cants and to restore pain-free normal range of motion in all mandibular excursions. We look forward to meeting with you to discuss which treatment options will work best for you. Please contact us today to schedule your consultation.
